I purchased the A.E. Nelson #79 breakfront swivel holster about a decade ago when I decided to go back to carrying a wheelgun, in this case a six-inch S&W 686, for patrol while my 1911 was sent out for an overhaul. No other holster offers as much panache! I would highly recommend this holster for revolvers having a six-inch barrel. Although it will take a little time getting used to reholstering due to the swivel, you will be able to so by either snapping the swivel secure or by bracing the back of the holster against your thigh as you slide the revolver back through the breakfront. My only actual complaint was when the thumb break strap separated from the holster and went flying during a modified "El Presidente" drill. I ended up with the fastest revolver time for the department and located the strap ten feet ahead of the firing line when the drill was done. Needless to say, I sent the holster back in and A.E. Nelson quickly made everything right by reattaching the "improved" strap back onto the holster. Thanks, A.E. Nelson, for continuing to make such iconic police equipment during these days when holsters are made of faux leather, space-aged plastics, and kydex!

Absolutely beautiful holster in Clarino to fit my 4" S&W model 28. Amazing craftmanship and excellent quality. I Ordered on July 18th and received on August 4th.

I just bought one of these myself. I did get it for a Smith & Wesson 686 6 inch, I don't have one yet however I did test it out on my 4 inch Smith & Wesson, and it worked beautifully. This is actually believe it or not a level two retention holster for revolvers. The holster itself clamps down on the revolver and of course you have the thumb brake retention. I actually tried top drawing the gun out of the holster to simulate a snatch. I did it with all my might and I couldn't get it out. This holster has terrific retention. If I was a police officer today, with complete freedom of my weapon of choice. I would carry this in a heartbeat. I would never have to worry about it, getting snatched or falling out.
